Finding Joy in the Small Things (Even in the Mess)
Motherhood often feels like one long to-do list. Dishes, laundry, meals, bedtime routines — repeat. And in the middle of the chaos, it’s easy to think happiness only comes with big wins — the promotion at work, the perfectly planned vacation, or finally folding all the laundry in one day (ha!).
But here’s the truth: the real joy of motherhood often hides in the smallest moments.
💛 Joy in the Unplanned
Think about the belly laugh your toddler gives you when you make a silly face. Or the way the sun hits your coffee mug on a rare quiet morning. These tiny sparks of joy don’t fix the mess, but they soften it.
🌿 Joy in the Ordinary
Small joys are everywhere — if we pay attention. A hug after a hard day. A note from your child that says “I love you, mom.” Music turned up while you cook dinner.
The ordinary is where joy lives most of the time. And ordinary moments are free.
✨ How to Notice More
Pause for 10 seconds. Before rushing to the next task, stop and notice what’s in front of you.
Name one thing you’re grateful for. Out loud if you can. It trains your mind to look for the good.
Put your phone down. It’s hard to notice the beauty of messy play or dinnertime chatter when you’re scrolling.
Celebrate out loud. Say, “That was fun!” or “This makes me happy.” Your kids will catch the habit too.
🌸 The Mess Will Always Be There
But so will the joy. You don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect. You don’t need a spotless kitchen, a long stretch of quiet, or a picture-perfect day.
Joy lives in the middle of the mess. The trick is simply letting yourself see it.
